The 2022 International Workshop on Random Testing (RT 2022)

Description

Random Testing is an easily understood approach to software testing, where test cases (test inputs) are generated randomly in the input domain. In spite of its simplicity, it has been widely used in many testing situations. A special kind of Random Testing, Fuzz Testing has also attracted a lot of attention from both industry and the research community. In the past few decades, several variants and enhancements of Random Testing, such as Adaptive Random Testing, have been developed, aiming to improve the failure-detection capability. Although the technology and methodology of Random Testing has made great progress, it still faces challenges to balance the trade-off between testing effectiveness and efficiency. In addition, with the rapid development of software systems, current Random Testing methods may fail to support some new software patterns. It is, therefore, necessary to explore effective and efficient Random Testing methods, and to investigate their potential new applications.

The 2022 International Workshop on Random Testing (RT 2022) seeks to bring together researchers, engineers, and practitioners to discuss and evaluate the latest challenges and breakthroughs in the field of Random Testing, and to identify future trends and problems in the area. Communication between academia and industry is intended, on the one hand, to help transfer problems from industry to academia, and on the other hand, provide practical applications for theoretical research results. The workshop welcomes papers and presentations about Random Testing, and related areas.

Topics

The list of topics includes, but is not limited to:

  • Test automation based on randomness
  • Tools supporting the application of Random Testing
  • Strategies for random test case generation and prioritization
  • Test oracles for random test inputs
  • Enhancements to Random Testing, such as Adaptive Random Testing, and approaches guided by Machine Learning or Deep Learning
  • Application of Random Testing to new software domains, such as Artificial Intelligence systems, and cyber-physical systems
  • Application of Random Testing to other testing methods
  • Application of Random Testing to other testing-related areas, such as Fault Localization and Program Repair
  • Application of Random Testing to different test granularity levels (system tests, integration tests, module tests, performance tests, etc.)
  • Reliability estimates based on Random Testing results
  • Usage profiles guiding Random Testing
  • Empirical studies of Random Testing

Submission

Authors are invited to submit original unpublished research papers as well as industrial practice papers. Simultaneous submissions to other conferences are not permitted.

Papers should be written in English and submitted in PDF format. The length of a camera ready paper will be limited to ten pages, including the title of the paper, the name and affiliation of each author, a 150-word abstract, and up to 6 keywords. Shorter version papers (up to four pages) are also allowed.

Authors must follow the DSA conference proceedings format (PDF | Word DOCX | Latex) to prepare their papers. Each submission will be reviewed by at least three program committee members. Paper selection is based on originality, technical contribution, presentation quality, and relevance to the workshop.

At least one of the authors of each accepted paper is required to pay a full registration fee and present the paper at the workshop. Arrangements are being made to publish selected accepted papers in reputable journals.
